...another very cool adventure with a fly rod and family!
We recently got back from our annual trip to Star Lake in Manitoba where we target primarily small mouth bass, though there are some walleye, pike and even a few perch to be found as well. I have only ever seen spin fisherman using bait casting rigs on this little lake, so when my sons and I show up with fly rods in hand we get some sideways looks. For the last couple of years our late June, early July trip timing has aligned perfectly with large mayfly and dragon fly emergence. We have caught small mouth up to 22” on this lake and the vast majority of those are caught on the surface.

There are a few bass lakes south of Fernie, B.C. The fish I got weren't large but I hooked dozens on wet flies. The fly shop in Fernie can tell you which ones are good now. Bass are quite a bit stronger than trout and my wrists were aching.
