Another Superb Day on the Water

Darren, Rick and I got out today chasing rainbows. We had lots of success. Caddis were emerging most of the day and we tried to catch the rainbows with emergers and dries. I did hear Ralf say he had some success yesterday stripping caddis back to his boat.

Our success was with a hot spot damsel (probably looks like a scud to the fish), micro leeches and chironomids (rusty nail).

Pelicans were also out cruising around. I love watching them.

Local Trout Waters

Karen and I got out today for a few hours with Doug Pullen. I am starting to keep track of the water temperatures. Once the water warms to around 70F, we do not fly fish those waters. It is too much stress on the trout!

Today the water temperature was 64F. The trout were dining on shrimp, leeches, chironomids, caddis and hydropsyche.

Karen and I used a balanced damsel pattern with a hot spot. It worked well for the time we fly fished. I did get some action on micro leeches. Doug got a few on chironomids.

Willy Having a Great time Fly Fishing for Pike, Walleye and Lake Whitefish

Willy and his friends have been having a great timer fly fishing at Sylvan Lake. Bloodworms have been helping the guys connect with walleye and lake whites. Willy has also been fishing rabbit leeches using an intermediate line. The walleye will attack the leeches as will the pike. Way to go Willy! Right out your back door too! Take a look at the one photo that has a bloodworm hanging out of the gill plate of a walleye. Match the hatch and get after it!

I have talked to several members of our gang that have been giving walleye, whitefish and pike a go on the fly. Looks like everyone is enjoying it too!
