Boulder Lake-Just West of Blackfalds

I managed to stop by Boulder Lake yesterday afternoon!  Turn west towards Sylvan Lake after getting off highway 2 at Blackfalds and travel past the industrial area and take the second left just before the hill. A beautiful spot to fly fish! The shore has some casting platforms in a few spots around the lake. It would be easy to launch a pontoon boat as well! It has a spacious parking area and excellent washroom facilities. The lake has both tiger trout and rainbows in it. Yesterday I started out fly fishing Bubba Gump Shrimp (and caught a few) and then transitioned to small black and red chironomids. The size 16 chironomids got the most action. The loons and osprey are excellent entertainment as well! Well worth an evening or two. If you go in the evenings, take some caddis patterns and some chironomid adult patterns with you. I suspect that Boulder is quite busy on the weekends.
