Aging Fish is Very Cool



My friend Austin is a fish biologist. He does extensive work with fisheries on the coast in Washington State! Austin was quite curious about the age of the cutthroat we were fly fishing for so he took several scale samples and took them home to his microscope to age them. Here are some of his results. 


The cutthroat above is 6 years old and 22 inches in length.


This is a cutthroat that is three years old and 15 inches in length


This is a 4 year old cutthroat that is 16 inches in length
