We are back from Belize. What an awesome holiday! It was a long two years that we waited through the COVID pandemic to get back to one of our happy places. Our opportunity finally came and off we went. The travel days were a bit tougher than usual but once we arrived at our condo in Belize; we had 14 wonderful days of sun, fly fishing, watching the reef crash, watching boats and just relaxing. Over the next 10 days or so, I will be posting pictures of our adventure.
Day 1 was a travel day. Normally we take a direct flight from Calgary to Belize City but that flight cancelled so were were rerouted through Toronto. It meant that Karen, Doug, Bill and I had to survive the Red Eye flight but we were excited.
Once we made it to Belize City, the real adventure began. We had to buy Belize travel insurance, dare I say that was a cash grab but it was compulsory, ensure we were fully vaccinated and we had to stay at a Gold Standard condo. We were organized and proceeding through customs was a breeze. It took less than 30 minutes.
We then checked in for our puddle jump over to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. We were set except for one minor detail. The Royal Couple-Kate and William were due to land in a few moments. That closed the airport for a few hours. Well no matter, we just got a Belikin beer and relaxed. Finally our 15 minute flight to Ambergris Caye was loading and in a few short minutes, we were landing in San Pedro where we were picked up and driven to Bermuda Beach-The Landings at Tres Coccos. We quickly settled in, went for dinner then started getting our fly gear ready for the next morning. Wohoo, we were excited but tired. We had a great dinner at a pub a few short steps down the beach, then we bought a few groceries to get us through our first fishing day. We were set!
Drop back to the blog, I will posting several articles about our fly fishing adventures!
Our noses were glued to the window of our West Jet flight as we started our decent into Belize City!
Travel always includes inconveniences. Today the Royal Couple-Kate and William landed in Belize and that caused delays while they reviewed the troops and headed off to Ambergrise Caye on a helicopter!
After our puddle jumper landed in San Pedro, we were picked up by the Managers of the condo. They know us well. They were glad to see us and they loaded our gear and of course us into golf carts and we headed to our condo!
Our first meal was cod for three. The cod was caught just a few short hours before our arrival. Yep opur adventure has begun.
