Big Fall Brown Trout from The Parkland Region of Manitoba

I always get teased about my love of big brown trout! There are several lakes in the Parkland Region of Manitoba where you have a chance at catching a monster brown! We tangled with several last week. Everybody caught a biggie at some point during the week. Fall browns dress up and are beautifully coloured. The browns love to eat forage fish but they will also eat boatmen/backswimmers, bloodworms or anything that they can devour! It is neat to see the browns cruising along the tulles greedily eating small forage fish. You can see the forage fish balling up to protect themselves. The water gets "nervous" and you know that a brown is having a snack!

The Splendor of Fly Fishing in the Fall in the Parklands of Manitoba

The last week in September brings the first full week of the fall season! The leaves are stunning golden and orange colours. You know that the leaves will be on the ground shortly but hitting a week with near perfect conditions is to be cherished and enjoyed. yes, it is like fly fishing inside a post card! Magnificent!

Parkland Region of Manitoba Fall Tiger Trout

Six of of our own gang just got back from spending a week in there Parkland Region of Manitoba. The conditions were amazing. Fall was dressed up it all of its splendour. The vibrant fall colours of the aspen trees made for a fantastic backdrop for fly fishing. Tiger trout are a cross between brook trout and brown trout. Tigers display an amazing array of fall colours too as they try to pack on the weight in anticipation of a long Manitoba winter. We had the opportunity to visit "Tiger Town" twice this week. The fishing was not fast and furious although we did catch many beautifully coloured tigers. Boatmen, backswimmers, and small forage fish flies worked great! To see Bernie Peet catch a personal best on his special "Double Bernie" set up was very cool. Stu McKie caught his first tigers while the rest of us reacquainted ourselves with this hard fighting "designer" trout! I love the fall colours on both the trees and the well dressed tigers!
