Fly Tying Live on Line...a New Experience

Well that was different! I was invited to tie two salt water flies live on line. Dana Lattery from WWW.FLYFISHINGBOWRIVER.COM invited me to tie some shrimp patterns during his weekly Thursday Night Live program. January is Salt Water Fly Month. It was a new experience. The live on line show is set up at Caravel Craft Brewery in Calgary! About 16 to 20 local fly tyers come and many more follow along on line. It was a very positive experience because of how well organized everything was. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun.

Here is a video of the evening! Take a look!

Dana (above) and Troy (below) ensured all the cameras were setup, along with cordless microphones and a connection on line!

Glen's Leech and Pumpkinheads

Happy New Year Everybody!

What a great turnout tonight! West River Fly Shop was filled to capacity to take in Bob and Karen's presentation on the Colorado Cutthroat Slam! It was part of their quest to catch all subspecies of cutthroat trout! Bob and Karen have now caught 8 of the 11 subspecies of cutthroat trout! Only 3 maybe 4 to go (depends on genetics of cutthroat in one area of Colorado)!

Take a look at the links below to see their adventures in Colorado:

After the presentation, the group worked on tying John Kent's signature fly, the Pumpkinhead, along with Glen's Leech,  a great micro leech that seems to work just about everywhere there are trout! I even know a fly fisher in Vermont that claims that they work great on steelhead!

Next week, Dan Reaman is our guest tyer. You will not want to miss Dan's presentation!

Finally, we have 27 signed up for Phil Rowley's all day workshop on February 2nd. Get ahold of Bob (bob.vanderwater@rdpsd.ab.ca) to sign up. See the details at the bottom of this post!
