Fly Fishing for Cutthroat is Here!

Darren Petersen got out to the west country to chase cutties on opening day and had a great time.  The river  was in fine shape for opening day, chilly but low and clear. Darren decided to carry his Andersen Split Cane Rod for potential dry fly action and first fish of the day ate a stimulator at 9:40 in the morning.  By mid day the trout were looking up and rising occasionally to mayflies and little stones so he got about a third of his day's action on top with bushy Wulff patterns and stimulators.  Waxwings and Solitaires were also flitting out above the water and enjoying the hatches.

Troy  at TC Outfitters assisted Darren in outfitting his bamboo rod with a new reel and line and it performed beautifully.  Darren is looking forward to fishing it a bunch this summer.

Darren met several gentlemen from the Northern Lights Fly fishers on the river, a friendly group.  I think everyone had a nice time on the water getting reacquainted with a river that is like an old friend.
