We had never been to the arctic and we were all excited! Rick, Karen, Jay, Leon and I were heading to Plummer's Arctic Lodge for fly fishing week. Reid Stoyberg, from our club, has been guiding at Plummer's Lodge for the past 4 years and he finally got us talked into coming.
The chance to catch big lakers on Great Bear Lake, do a fly out to the world famous Tree River and a fly out to the Sulky River was on all of our minds.
The trip starts with a travel day from Edmonton to Yellowknife. We had a lot of gear so we made sure we had plenty of time at the airport to get our gear checked through. We flew West Jet and they were extremely helpful getting so much gear onto the plane!
After 1 hr. and 45 minutes, we were touching down in Yellowknife. The small airport was busy, real busy. We were pleased to see all of our gear arrived with us! Plummer's staff was there to greet us and take our gear, except for an overnight bag. We were not flying to the lodge until the next morning! Plummers also ensured we had transportation to our motel and then they picked us up the next morning and got us all to our charter flight into Plummer's Lodge!
Once settled at our motel, we went exploring!
Karen Deplaning at Yellowknife along with my buddy, Jay!
The polar bear in the lobby of the hotel was a great place to have some fun!
The view into the harbour area from the aviation rock gave us a great view of Yellowknife!
We headed to the old town in Yellowknife which was a hot 20 minute walk. We got to Bullock's Bistro and had buffalo stew and ling cod. Of course we had to wash down the food with some beer from the north!
Leon, Karen and Rick enjoying the unique menu at the bistrow!
Well we had a great tour of old Yellowknife and we excitedly settled in for the evening because tomorrow was going to be an exciting day!
