It is a long drive to get to our lake in the USA. We leave at 5 am but by 5 pm we are fly fishing usually in shorts and a t-shirt. With the unpredictable Alberta weather in the spring, it is nice to escape to full on spring and excellent lake fly fishing! Blossoming orchards, green grass and trees that are back to their full splendour certainly makes us glad to escape Alberta for a few days. I spent the first three days in shorts but the cooler weather made me don the waders for the final two days of fly fishing. We try to time our trip with the lahontans cruising the shore line. It can be a bit unpredictable but we do seem to get there at the the approximate right time. I personally love the sunshine, the great fly fishing and all the good times with the gang. We also meet up with our friends from south of the border. We always have a great time.
We fly fished with a variety of damsel patterns and balanced flies.
This post is not really about me rambling on about our trip but for you to enjoy the pictures. Karen and I have been to this lake over a dozen times. It is a well managed lake and I believe the local economy loves the business at their hotels, restaurants and the local fly shop!
Well the drive back to Red Deer was a bit crazy. There was an amazing snow storm just west of Calgary the night before we came home. Buses,18 wheelers, dead elk and cars were strewn all over the ditches or just abandoned on the side of the road. Amazing carnage. As we pulled into our driveway, the snow pounded down on us. That seems to be a tradition for this trip.
Take a look! Be sure to click on the pictures to make them larger.
