Trudes to End the Tying Season

Trudes might be considered "Old School" but they are excellent dry fly patterns. The classics of course are the Royal Trude and the Lime Trude. In our club we also have the distinction of having one of our own, Don Andersen, from Rocky Mountain House developing the CFF (The 100 Fish Fly). It is tied trude style and is an excellent searching pattern. Some fly fishers use trudes during caddis hatches, I personally use them as an attractor/searching pattern. There is an excellent write up about Don Andersen's, CFF in a fly fishing journal. Here is a link to Don's web page and how the CFF was developed.

Well another fly tying season has come to a close. It is time to top up all of those fly boxes and get ready for the open water season. Just a reminder that the Red Deer River is now closed until May 15th. I do want to thank all of the presenters that shared their expertise with our club. We all appreciate your efforts. I always learn a lot from our group and presenters. This tying season was no exception!

We ALL owe Troy Langelaar from West River Fly Shop a big thanks for allowing us to use his space for our tying sessions. It maybe a bit cramped but it is FREE and convenient! Thanks again Troy!

Please be sure to support the Central Alberta Trout Unlimited Dinner on May 14th. This dinner will help us raise some badly needed funds to continue with our restoration work on several streams here in Central Alberta. Take a look at what we have accomplished in the past.

Lastly, keep checking back on the blog. I will be posting fishing reports. Please send me pictures or stories of your adventures! They are fun to read. I do not post locations unless it is something like Sylvan Lake or the Red Deer River.

There are links on this blog to get your Alberta Fishing Licence for the upcoming season! Keep in touch everybody!
