Kamloops Area Lakes in July with Doug Pullen

Thanks Doug for the report on your trip to the Kamloops region to fly fish!

My annual trip to the Kamloops area was very challenging this year. Daily temperatures were in the thirties with wind and rain mixed in. There are over a hundred lakes within an hour’s drive of Kamloops;  each one having its own character. Water temperature and lake structure always played a key role in solving the daily puzzle while being observant of insect hatches, bird activity and the local topography providing additional clues. Some days saw lots of dry fly action which included mayflies, dragonflies and damsels. Like all fishing trips, some days were better than others. The days that were slow really tested your patience and made you appreciate the days when the fishing was fast and furious.
