Late Season Cutthroat Fly Fishing!

Karen, my buddy Jay and I finally had a window of opportunity to head to our eastern slopes for some cutthroat fly fishing. The season will close on our cutthroat rivers at the end of month so we seized the moment and headed out! The road was snowy and icy in places but we took our time. The fly fishing was stellar. The water levels were excellent for this time of the year and the water was extremely cold. The cutthroat were feisty and hungry! The were a few risers. We mainly nymphed and caught lots of well continued fat and colourful cutts!

The day was warm but usually warm late season warmth comes with wind. And yes, the wind picked up as the temperature warmed. About mid afternoon, the wind started to rock so we called it a day and headed back to Red Deer.

We hope to get out a few more times before the end of the month.
