Tamaracks, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and Good Friends

The tamaracks were ablaze in spectacular fall colours as Rick, Larry, Ken and I enjoyed the last of the  warm fall weather at Cow Lake. We have been treated to very little wind in the last two weeks and the fly fishing has been excellent. Today may have been the best day. All of us piled into my 17 foot G3 and we motored out to fly fish along the edges looking for feeding trout! We connected with a good number of rainbows that were impressive sizes, several browns and a few pike. The trout were definitely feeding on shrimp. As usual at Cow Lake, patience is the key. We caught trout deeper in the lake and our usual array of scud patterns helped us hook up with close to 20 very decent trout.

The best part of the day is the antics in the boat. We laughed, joked, and talked the day away as we fly fished. The sun shown down on us as well enjoyed the unusually warm fall weather. If the weather man is correct, cold weather is set to move in. Time to bundle up and keep it going until the lake ice over! Find the foul weather gear. I think you are going to need it!
